Ammonia or Freon Direct Coolers
Tubular full flood ammonia cooler loaded for shipment.

By using ammonia or an acceptable Freon refrigerant as the product cooling medium, instead of using propylene glycol, the electrical savings will be approx. 25%. A glycol cooling system cost with tank, pump etc. will also be saved.

For example, juice can be cooled to 30°F with 27°F refrigerant and milk to 32°F with 28°F refrigerant. With glycol as the medium the refrigerant temperature would most likely be approx. 15°F which translates into approx. a 25% increase in electrical energy over an Ammonia Cooler. An Ammonia Cooler also eliminates the power needed to pump the glycol.

Feldmeier Ammonia Coolers come with the surge drum amd brackets for mounting above the cooler. Additionally, we furnish the controls for the refrigerant.
